What to expect at an Adventist worship service in Portuguese

If you have never been to a Seventh-day Adventist service — or never one in Portuguese — it helps to know what the morning looks like before you arrive. Here is an honest picture of a Saturday at CBA Orlando, so you can come relaxed and simply be welcomed.

When we gather, and why it is Saturday

Our main gathering is Saturday morning, the Bible Sabbath — a day Adventists keep as a gift of rest from God. The morning has two parts: Sabbath School first, then Divine Worship. You are welcome to come for both or just for part of it.

Most people arrive a little before things begin so they can settle in. If you walk in mid-morning, that is completely fine — someone will help you find a seat.

Sabbath School: Bible study by age

The morning usually opens with Sabbath School, a time of Bible study in smaller groups. There are classes by age, so children, teens, young adults, and adults each have a place that fits them.

  • Adults often study and discuss a Bible passage together — questions and quiet listening are equally welcome.
  • Children and teens have caring volunteers and lessons made for their age.
  • If you are not sure where to go, just tell someone at the door and they will walk you to the right room.

Divine Worship: singing, prayer, and a message

After Sabbath School comes Divine Worship, the main service. A typical hour to ninety minutes includes:

  • Singing — hymns and worship songs, usually with the words on screen so you can follow.
  • Prayer, and often a moment to share needs and gratitude.
  • Music — a choir, a soloist, or instruments.
  • A message from the Bible, given by the pastor or a speaker.

You are free to sing, stand, sit, or simply take it in. Nothing is required of a visitor.

It is in Brazilian Portuguese — and that is okay

Worship, Sabbath School, and most ministries are in Brazilian Portuguese, the heart language of our congregation. If you speak English or Spanish, our team is glad to help you follow along, and you are no less welcome.

You do not need to know the songs, the order of service, or any customs. Watching and taking it in is a perfectly good way to spend a first visit.

Children, lunch, and after the service

Families are very welcome. There is a safe, caring space for the littlest ones during the morning, and Sabbath School classes for every age. On many Saturdays we share a simple lunch together after worship — on a first visit, just come and enjoy the company; there is nothing to bring.

No one will put you on the spot. You can stay for as long as you like, ask any questions, or quietly slip out — all of it is fine.

What to wear, and a few simple tips

Come as you are comfortable. Many dress smart-casual to nicer, but there is no dress code, and no one is checking. A few small things that help:

  • Bring a Bible if you have one — phones and shared copies work just as well.
  • Tell someone it is your first time; we would love to greet you by name.
  • If you are coming with children, let us know so we can point you to the right class.

Plan your first Saturday

We would love to save you a seat. Let us know you are coming and whether you are bringing children, and our team will help your visit feel easy from the moment you arrive.
